FLASH TRAC TESTIMONIAL
Starting in the masonry construction supply business in 1984, I’ve seen the evolution of back-ventilated cavity wall flashing from thin PVC products of the 1980’s, to rubberized asphalt membranes of the 1990’s, to Elvaloy and EPDM’s of the 2000’s, to most recently, flexible stainless steel sheet flashings. All these changes have led to more durable drainage systems for masonry walls.
However, with the advent of spray foam insulation over the past 10 years, it has become increasingly difficult to do a good installation with even the best stainless steel flexible flashing, because the flashing must be installed too soon, the spray foam gums up the flashing and impairs performance of the cavity drainage system. With spray foam insulation, it is imperative no flashing be installed “before its time”. Correct flashing installation sequencing has been impossible in the past with standard means and methods.
Finally, a product was invented that allows masonry flashing to be installed after installation of the spray foam (or any other type of insulation). Flash Trac is one of the best inventions to arrive on the market, finally allowing the masons to build a first-class, well-performing, back-ventilated rainscreen system that diverts all penetrating moisture to the exterior of the wall, as designed and drawn. Flash Trac facilitates “no flashing before its time”, that is, it functions as a stand-off bracket, extending the flashing plane beyond the face of the insulation, so masonry flashing can be installed after all insulation is in place.
Flash Trac has solved the problems created by spray foam insulation. It is also the preferred product for all other cavity insulation products: XPS board, mineral wool and polyiso. No matter what type of insulation is being specified, Flash Trac guarantees an unbroken plane of insulation, not torn or invaded by installation of flashing. Flash Trac should be specified on all masonry cavity walls as an economical upgrade to the assembly, guaranteeing lifetime performance of the drainage system.
